Sate Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) recently organised a grand function in Bhopal to celebrate state tourism day, with the support of Ministry of Tourism (MoT) and Air India as its travel partners. On the occasion Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh unveiled five new accommodation units of Madhya Pradesh Tourism. These accommodation units are: Tapti Retreat, Burhanpur; Public Facility- Dewas Tekri; Tourism Facility - Jatashankar; Rural Tourism- Budhni; and Tourism Office, Raipur. He released the guide book centered on tourist centres - Burhanpur, Ujjain, Chanderi, Pachmarhi and Boudh Paripath, published in association with Icher group.
Chauhan also presented ISO 9001-2008 Certificates to five units of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation - Wind & Waves Restaurant, Bhopal; Picnic At Bhopal; Highway Treat, Bhimbaithka; Tourist Motel, Pipariya, and Malwa Resort, Mandu. He said that including these certificates, the state tourism development corporation has become the first corporation in the country to receive 17 ISO certificates. The state received 80 per cent and 56 per cent increase in domestic and foreign tourist arrivals respectively in the last five years.
He also felicitated the state tourism awards to individuals and organisations: Employees of Madhya Pradesh Tourism were awarded with Vishisth Sewa Medals and certificate for their performance record. G S Chahal, Chief Advisor, Madhya Pradesh Tourism was awarded with Lifetime achievement award. Hotels and restaurants of the state were awarded in various categories. The State Express and Intrepid Travels of Delhi received the award for ‘The Best promoter of MP Tourism’. Urmila Subhadra Majumdar was also awarded for visiting the state 35 times in past five years.
Other dignitaries present at the function included: Dhruv Narayan Singh, Chairman, Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC), Iqbal Singh Bains, Principal Secretary - Tourism, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Janakram Advani, Vice-Chairman, MPSTDC; Hari Ranjan Rao, Managing Director, MPSTDC and Ashwani Lohani , Former Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism and Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi. Lohani was also awarded as the Icon of Change in Madhya Pradesh Tourism.
