Former beauty queen and Kingfisher calender model, Preeti Desai is all set to make her debut in the forthcoming film, ‘Shor In The City’. For the longest time, she was known as actor Abhay Deol’s girlfriend though none of them ever confirmed whether they are a pair or not. The leggy lass speaks to Yahoo India! about the film, learning Hindi and Shah Rukh Khan. Excerpts from the interview:

Contrary to the earlier rumours that Abhay introduced you to the industry, it was actually Shah Rukh Khan...

Shah Rukh is a family friend so when I started getting offers from India, I sought his advice. He encouraged me and advised me to brush up my Hindi and acting skills.

So did winning the beauty pageant make it easier for you get noticed?

After winning the pageant, I started getting offers for modeling and films. I had a regular nine to five job as a beauty therapist then. So I decided to give it a try and so far, it has been good.

Tell us about your role in the film?

It is a short and sweet role. I play Sharmila, Sendil Ramamurthy’s love interest. She is a very simple girl who meets Sendil’s character when he is going through a tough phase. She shows him the real Mumbai.

So are you comfortable with Hindi now?

I can speak Hindi though I need to work on it a bit more. I didn’t speak the language much in England as my first language was Gujrati and English.

So, are you dating Abhay?

At this point, I have decided not to comment on anything personal. No matter what I say, people will exaggerate. I was warned that the controversies will get worse prior to the film’s release so I was expecting these questions. I guess this is a part of the show business. But sorry, I am not commenting on my personal life.

Do you have a list of actors and directors you would want to work with?

I am still testing waters so it is too early to have a wish list. I have grown watching Bollywood films but recently, I have started noticing the names of the actors and directors. Earlier, I didn’t even know the names of the actors in the films. So that’s an improvement. Now I am looking forward to reading some good scripts.File Under: Source:
