NOFX bassist Fat Mike says he was mugged recently in during the revered punk band's tour of South America. But the infamous musician -- whose real name is Mike Burkett -- says that being on the receiving end of such a crime wasn't all that bad. In fact, he admits he is "impressed" with the thief.
"If there ever was a good way to get mugged, I found it," Fat Mike wrote on NOFX's MySpace page. "Yeah, no one wants to get robbed, but if you do, I can't think of a better way."
Burkett says he was walking the streets of Buenos Aires at 7AM looking for a bar when he stopped at an intersection to text message one of the camera men on tour with the band. "I pushed send and a guy on a bike accidentally knocks my iPhone out of my hand," Mike explained. "Wait a second, he doesn't stop and my iPhone isn't on the ground. I look to my right and there he is, holding my phone -- which has a f---load of pictures that I don't really want made public -- with his right hand and making a pretty fast getaway. Wow! I've been robbed!"
"I kind of laugh and think, 'pretty sneaky,'" Fat Mike added. "What a f---ing great way to get robbed. No violence, no trauma, no chance I'm gonna run after him."
In addition to the phone -- which he says was passcode protected -- he also lost a few hundred dollars he had stuffed in his phone's case. "I would rather lose that then get held up at gunpoint or bashed in the head with a pipe," the bassist added. "So even though I lost, I really kind of won. South America ain't such a bad place after all."
