Bhopal Heavy rain beginning Sunday evening hit several parts of Madhya Pradesh, disrupting normal life in the Bhopal, Rajgarh, Sehore, Datia, Sagar, Ujjain, Gwalior, Vidisha, Harda and Raisen districts.
The downpours threaten an Andhra Pradesh- Karnataka-like situation for the state. Rajgarh and Ujjain districts recorded 9 cm rainfall between Sunday and Monday. Panchmarhi, Shajapur, and Dhar received 7 cm rainfall, followed by Indore with 5 cm in the same period. Nagaon village in Chhattarpur district recorded maximum rain of 10 cm on Sunday.
In Sehore district, the Kolans river was flowing three feet above the danger level mark. The rain also forced the closure of the National Highway 59 (a) for vehicular traffic. The state meteorological centre has forecast moderate to heavy rain over Jabalpur, Rewa and Sagar divisions and at a few other places in the next 24 hours. The monsoon season normally ends in the state by September 30 every year.
But a low pressure formation over Vidarbha and Telangana this year has resulted in several parts of the state witnessing rain in the first week of October, Met officials said. The late rain is expected to benefit farmers who had sown their soyabean crop recently.
